The ATO are leading the charge with embracing new technology and reaching consumers with the recent release of their official podcast channel. A clever play on words, it is aptly named Tax InVoice. The ATO is being proactive and finding a more modern medium to educate and engage with Australian tax payers.

They have only released one show so far (on the 19th February, 2018) so it appears that it might be either sporadic releases or monthly. But the aim is to talk about a range of tax topics and issues that people want to know about, straight from the source. It provides an easy listening platform for interested people to keep up to date with the latest in tax and super information.

Each episode will feature industry experts talking with the senior leaders of the ATO. The Assistant Commissioner, Marketing and Communication Sally Bektas said in their media release that “We’re always looking at innovative ways to reach audiences at a time and place that suits them – this new channel supports that vision.”

First episode - Superannuation: The road ahead

“In our first episode ‘Superannuation: the road ahead’, Deputy Commissioner of Superannuation James O’Halloran talks to Dr David Knox, Senior Partner at Mercer, and co-chair of the ATO’s Superannuation Industry Stewardship Group about the year ahead for APRA funds.”

“They have a candid chat about the ATO’s perspective on how things have gone so far, the challenges and what lies ahead in 2018 for APRA funds.”

While they haven’t announced a date for the next episode if you want to make sure that you don’t miss out it is best to subscribe through iTunes or your favourite podcast provider. By subscribing you ensure that the next episode will automatically be downloaded to your device once it is ready.

Even though as accountants we love talking about, reading and listening to all things tax and accounting, we appreciate that not everyone is the same! But these episodes are short, in fact it only goes for 15 minutes. So we would highly recommend tuning in to help you stay up to date with relevant and important tax information.
