Fear is a natural emotional response to a perceived risk or threat. While it is a built-in human instinct designed to protect us, fear can be quite unhelpful in preventing us from benefiting from experiences and opportunities.
Fear is a learned emotion, and in the words of Dale Carnegie:
“You can conquer almost any fear if you will only make up your mind to do so. For remember, fear doesn't exist anywhere except in the mind”.
Throughout the centuries, I believe that one of the biggest causes of fear – is fear of the unknown. For many people, property investment is an unknown quantity. When we don’t know about something, our natural human instinct kicks in to protect us from being hurt – either physically, emotionally or in this case, financially.
The list of property investment fears I've come across include:
- Making a mistake
- Losing money
- Making a fool of yourself
- Being ripped off
- Investing in the wrong location
- Not finding tenants
- Not being able to meet the repayments
The list goes on.
Would you consider property investment if you could address these fears?
I believe that a key way to address these fears is to learn – take property investment from the unknown to the known.
To help you we've produced an introductory guide, Property Investment for Beginners which will introduce you to 15 useful strategies that can start you on the road to learning more about property investment.
