Malcolm Turnbull will be sworn in as Australia's 29th prime minister today

The big news in Australia this morning is that Malcolm Turnbull will become our new prime minister today after he beat Tony Abbott 54-44 in a ballot for the Liberal leadership last night.

What happens next?

Tony Abbott will resign as prime minister sometime this morning and Malcolm Turnbull will then be sworn in at Government House and will meet with the Cabinet.

At 2pm AEST, Mr Turnbull faces his first Question Time as prime minister.
